Bleeding Thunder is a community project that archives and empowers a queer, chthonic mythos distinguishing menstruation from cis-womanhood. Our intention is to build a space that abundantly recognizes, validates, and celebrates queer + trans menstruators in their authentic experiences...
And we are fundraising to publish our SECOND zine compilation that features queer + trans menstruators from around the world!
When we first embarked on this project in 2019, we didn’t know what to expect and have been continually humbled by the community that has circled and found us.
It is too often that queer people menstruate in secret because not only are we navigating shame and social conditioning around menstruation, we are also navigating the cis-hetero patriarchy and how it equates menstruation to womanhood. This is a project borne out of the desire for healing that can happen when you are mirrored and held in your uniqueness in community.
With the creation of this second issue of the Bleeding Thunder zine, we continue to build a platform for trans, nonbinary, genderqueer, and all other non-cis people to tell their stories about menstruation and for these stories to be honored. Our organizers and contributors are artists, poets, & writers spanning seven states across Turtle Island/the U.S., five countries, and three continents.
We are raising $2800 this year to cover our zine production costs and pay organizers and artists.
